Vintage Wedgwood bone-china teacup and saucer with the famous Kutani Crane design,
About the pattern: This Wedgwood Kutani Crane design was manufactured for 27 years by the Wedgwood China company, based in England. Inspired by oriental elements, this pattern features a graceful crane surrounded by bright, multi-color flowers in orange, green, turquoise, and more. The word 'Kutani' means 'Nine Valleys' and is the name of an area and a village in Japan. Wedgwood paid homage to the Kutani region, a place where porcelain made it's debut as early as 1655. Birds are prominent features of Kutani china. The highly distinctive Kutani Crane pattern is one of the most recognizable ones ever made by Wedgwood and continues to be popular amongst collectors.
